2014 Tree Planting Wrap-up!
Tree Planting 2014!
A total of 180,000 seedlings were planted this year! Thank you to all volunteers who helped get these plants in the ground.
Ellen Brook Wetland
Our major project this year was the Ellen Brook Wetland, where with the help of nine backpackers, we planted over 40,000 seedlings. This enormous undertaking by the Swan River Trust has attracted media attention, and the Minister for Environment Albert Jacobs even paid the site a visit on the 10th of July. The Swan River Trust corporate planting day was also held this year, where 10,000 rushes and sedges were planted in one day.
Fly Boys Planting Day
The annual Fly Boys planting day was held on base this year, at the Pearce South site near Butternab Rd, Bullsbrook. The seedlings from last year look fantastic and have had a great success rate. Unfortunately the Scouts were unable to join us this year, but the Singaporean Trainee Pilots still planted 10,000 seedlings before lunch!
Tronox Community Planting Day
Tronox held a corporate planting day for their staff and families on the 5th of July at a revegetation site at the Chittering Landcare Centre. The sun shined while over 100 people and their children planted and guarded nearly 3000 seedlings, and enjoyed a BBQ lunch afterwards.
